TURA, Mar 02: Condemning the recent attack on the KSU activist at Ichamati near Shella in the district of East Khasi Hills by non tribals on February 28, the A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), stands in solidarity with all the NGOs of the state, fighting for rights of the indigenous tribes especially the Garo, Khasi and Jaintia.
In a communiqué to the media, AHAM said that it is heartening to know that sporadic attacks on indigenous tribals by the non tribals are going un-checked in the state and they condemned the recent attack on the KSU activists in Ichamati, which was uncalled for and the organization demands the immediate arrests of all the culprits involved in the attack.
Any unprecedented attacks in the future to any organization standing for the tribal rights of the state by the non tribals, may face retaliation from the NGOs and AHAM would stand in unity for the cause. We appeal to the local non tribals to support the cause of the NGOs who are opposing the CAA and NRC, which is for the good cause of all, stated the press release send by AHAM, The organisation informed that Meghalaya has been a peaceful and silent state in all the years and the state has been the symbolic in matters of communal harmony for the country where people of religion, caste and creed resides together without any discrimination and they implore on the local non tribals, not to give in to politics of division and not to support the illegal migrants in attacking local tribals.
Supporting the Khasi Students Union (KSU), in its activities of opposing the NRC and CAA, as brothers together in the state of Meghalaya, the awakening movement group are also asking non tribals who adverse to the protectionist ideologies of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo people, to stop involving themselves in non violent activities against the organization of Garo, Khasi and Jaintia of the state. “Silence and tolerance does not really show that the indigenous people of the state are weak, stated AHAM in the press release and further added that sporadic attacks on tribals by non tribals all over the state, will not be tolerated and AHAM warns the illegal migrants to not resort to non violence.
Asking all the people of the state, from all walks of life to fight against the tyranny which has started against the indigenous tribes of Meghalaya, AHAM is also hopeful that local non tribals would be supportive of the cause and stand united against the illegal foreigners and illegal migrant.
Appealing to the state government and the protectors of law to come in aid of the tribals whenever they are being attacked by the non tribals or whenever there is an altercation between tribals and non tribals, AHAM also wants the state authority to also apprehend the alleged non tribal, foreigner miscreant, whenever they involved themselves in violence against the indigenous tribals of the state.
