Despite advisory against gathering, WGH conducts Census training with over 200 people
Tura March 17: Despite an advisory by the state government over large gatherings over the fears of infection through COVID – 19, the West Garo Hills district administration has still gone ahead with a census training that took place with more than 200 people in the town of Tura.
The day long census training was organized in Tura ETC building on Tuesday morning, mostly government teachers selected as enumerators and supervisors for an upcoming Socio-Economic Census operation in the region.
The day long event did not go well with the attendees most of who were angry at the conducting of the meeting later spoke out against the order while venting their frustrations against it. Many concerned residents even took to social media to express their concerns and called for its cancellation.
It was ultimately left to the Under Secretary of the state government to issue an order, on Tuesday, postponing the census training with immediate effect all across the state.
Interestingly, a similar order from the government calling for cancellation of all trainings involving group gathering had already been given out on Monday. This seemingly failed to make an impact in some sections in Garo Hills.
“We had to get a confirmation from the ministry of home affairs for any postponement or cancellation since these are trainings related to the upcoming census collection in the country which may have led to the delay in information dissemination,” stated commissioner of divisions, Garo Hills, P Sampath Kumar on the matter.
