Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday informed that Deputy Commissioners regarding the state have been empowered to release the fund of Rs 25 lakhs from the MLA scheme to the concerned legislators.
He informed that the MLAs have to sumbit a detailed list of essential commodities to be distributed to the beneficiaries and avail the funds, which will be sanctioned from the DC's office on a immediate basis.
He informed the media that MLAs and MDCs have been requested to work in coordination with the District Administration in ensuring that essential commodities are made available.
He said that during this time of crisis the public representatives, social organisations and volunteers have to come together to help the government.
He educated that the administration has been connecting with MLAs of various locale to request their perspectives and recommendations which will empower the legislature to streamline the conveyance component.
He informed that cabinet minister charge for various districts of the State, which is separated in three Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills are consistently working at the territorial level to ensure that every essential commodities were made available and they were making effort to address the concerns raised by the administration of the various areas.
"A system for coordinated effort between the grassroots, the administration and the government has been set up and we are working to ensure that all necessary measure were taken, which is in the interest and welfare of the public," Sangma said.
He said that the effort of the government to deal this crisis with each possible measure was to ensure that there is an improvement in the overall coordination of the different efforts that the administration has started.
"There are issues and concerns which are very challenging but we will try our best to address those concerns. We have received positive suggestions from public representatives," he said.
“The cooperation extended by the public representatives are very supportive and have united representatives from across parties,” he added.
He further informed that there are grievances from different part of the state and the government has been working overtime to redress issues.
"This is unprecedented situation and the administration under the leadership of Chief Secretary has been working tirelessly to address public concerns," Sangma added.
On inquiries by the media on measures with cases of COVID-19 positive in Assam, Sangma said that according to MHA guidelines the between state and between district movement has been restricted.
On questions related to post lockdown from April 14, the Chief Minister said that all nations over the world are taking measures and India and Meghalaya as a State is also prepared to deal with the situation.
He added that the government is aware of the COVID-19 crisis globally and is prepared to designate a hospital for similar cases in the future.
Encouraging the people of the State to help out the government during this crisis, the Chief Minister said that through this lockdown we should be able to break the transmission chain.
